Lyon sign Toulalan as Nilmar goes
![]() Toulalan is paraded to the media after his big-money transfer to Lyon. LYON, France -- Five-times French champions Lyon have snapped up Nantes midfielder Jeremy Toulalan for seven million euros ($8.9 million). However, Brazilian forward Nilmar is returning permanently to Corinthians, where he has been playing on loan this season, for a fee that could reach 10 million euros ($12.7 million). Toulalan, who was preparing with the France squad for the European under-21 Championships in Portugal, was given a few hours off to sign for Lyon. The 23-year-old said: "I am coming here to improve, to step up to a new level and to win titles because currently my trophy cabinet is bare." Lyon coach Gerard Houllier was delighted with his new acquisition. "We wanted Jeremy Toulalan since last year," he said. "He seems to have the game and the same spirit or philosophy as we do here." Heading out of the door, though, is 21-year-old Nilmar who has struggled to break into the Lyon side since his $7m euro arrival in 2004. He went on loan to Corinthians this season and was named best player and in the Sau Paulo state championship where he scored 18 goals in just 13 games.
