![]() Bosacki pair as Poland say goodbye
![]() Bosacki's brace was too little too late for Poland who now return home. HANOVER, Germany -- Bartosz Bosacki scored in each half as Poland finished their World Cup with a 2-1 win over Costa Rica in their final Group A game in Hanover on Tuesday. Ronald Gomez fired a low free-kick through the Polish wall and between goalkeeper Artur Boruc's legs to open the score in the 25th minute. Bosacki hit Poland's first goal in the finals and his first international goal after 33 minutes and headed in from Jacek Krzynowek's corner to clinch victory in the 66th minute. His first came when Costa Rica keeper Kose Porras came out and missed a Maciej Zurawski corner and the defender blasted in off the underside of the bar. Both teams had already failed to reach the knockout stages after losing their opening two matches. The result meant Poland finished third and Costa Rica bottom of the group. Poland coach Pawel Janas said the players had responded to his tactics as they finally picked up points. "We were criticised because we couldn't score through set pieces but today we did," said Janas. "I'm very happy. It was very hot today and I'm glad the team responded to my tactics." Asked about Bosacki being deservedly named Man of the Match, Janas said: "It's a surprise for me. I expected it to be a striker or midfield player but it was a defender. "I'm very grateful to him that he scored two goals." Costa Rica captain Luis Marin said: "We tried. We had enough chances. It's disappointing to leave without a win." Germany finished top with a maximum nine points after beating Ecuador 3-0 in Tuesday's other Group A game, with the South Americans on six points ahead of Poland on three.
