Striker Hartson returns to England
![]() Hartson scored over 100 goals for Celtic in a successful five-year spell. LONDON, England -- Celtic striker John Hartson has signed a two-year contract with English second division West Bromwich. Although he had a year remaining on his Celtic deal, the former Wales international felt the time was right to return to England. "I have had five fantastic years in Scotland and been lucky to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world," said Hartson. "But for a variety of reasons the time is now right for me to make a change and return to English football. "West Brom manager Bryan Robson wants Premier League football back as soon as possible and that leaves me with another big challenge on my hands. " West Brom were relegated from the Premier League last season. Hartson, formerly with Arsenal, West Ham, Luton Town, Wimbledon and Coventry, scored more than 100 goals in all competitions for Celtic. He was named the PFA and Football Writers' Player of the Year in the 2004-05 season after netting 30 goals in 49 games. The 31-year-old announced his retirement from internationals in February, having scored 14 goals in 51 appearances since making his Wales debut in 1995.
