![]() Ayala heads Argentina into a 49th minute lead from Riquelme's corner. SPECIAL REPORTBERLIN, Germany -- Miroslav Klose headed a fine 80th minute equalizer to keep Germany's World Cup hopes alive and take their quarterfinal against Argentina into extra time at 1-1 in Berlin. Roberto Ayala had headed Argentina into a 49th minute lead from Juan Roman Riquelme's right-wing corner. The South Americans then suffered a big blow in the 70th minute when goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri had to go off injured and Leonardo Franco deputized. There were few chances in a tight opening half but German captain Michael.Ballack positioned himself well to meet Bernt Schneider'scross after 16 minutes only to see his powerful header fly wide. The Argentines grabbed the lead four minutes after the break when slack marking by the home defense allowed Ayala to rise and head strongly past Jens Lehman from Riquelme's well-flighted corner-kick. After 73 minutes Argentina had a great chance to wrap up victory when Maxi Rodriguez burst away on the right, but his angled drive flew into the sidenetting. With time running out Ballack crossed from the left, Lucas Podolski headed the ball on across the goalmouth and Klose directed his header beyond the grasp of substitute keeper Franco. It was still 1-1 after extra time.
