BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Hungarian champions Debrecen have named Czech Miroslav Beranek as their new manager until December 2007.

He takes over from Attila Supka who resigned three days ago after a poor start to the season and heavy criticism from club co-owner Gabor Szima.

Beranek, 59, was a coach with the Czech national squad from 2002 and 2006 and also managed Slavia Prague in the 2002/2003 season.

Last week Debrecen suffered a 5-2 aggregate defeat in their Champions League second qualifying round tie with Macedonian team Rabotnicki Skopje.

They have taken four points from their first two domestic league games this season.

Supka had been in charge since November 2004 and guided the team to Hungarian titles in 2005 and 2006.
