Keane heads Ireland's withdrawals
![]() Tottenham striker Keane is among the Irish absentees in Dublin. DUBLIN, Ireland -- Ireland will miss key players for Wednesday's friendly against the Netherlands after injured quartet Robbie Keane, Terry Dixon, Richard Dunne and Alan Lee withdrew from the squad. Concerned coach Steve Staunton has called Leeds United's Jonathan Douglas and Sunderland's Daryl Murphy into the squad for the game in Dublin. "It's far from ideal to lose so many of the squad through injury," Staunton said in a statement. "As a result, we are without some of our leading players and with this being the final opportunity to test ourselves prior to the start of the European qualifying campaign, that's very disappointing." However, the withdrawals meant some young and talented players would get the opportunity to shine, he added.
