Spain held in Raul's 100th match
![]() Raul could not help his Spanish side break down a solid Iceland defense. MADRID, Spain -- Spain were held to a 0-0 draw against Iceland in Reykjavik on Tuesday as striker Raul made his 100th appearance for his country. "I am delighted to reach such a landmark figure," the Real Madrid striker said after the match. "It was just a shame the game didn't go as well as we had hoped." Only goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta, who made 126 appearances between 1986 and 1998, has played more games for Spain than the 29-year-old. Raul, who made his international debut against the Czech Republic in October 1996, is also Spain's all-time record scorer with 44 goals. He has played in three World Cups and two European championships. Spain produced a listless performance in the friendly against opponents they will meet in the Euro 2008 qualifiers. Iceland, who were without leading striker Eidur Gudjohnsen, had the better of the first half and were unlucky not to lead at halftime after good efforts from midfielders Johannes Gudjonsson and Hannes Sigurdsson. Spain improved marginally when wingers Jose Antonio Reyes and Joaquin came on after the break, but they were still unable to find their way past the inspired Iceland keeper Arni Arason. Spain open their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign at home to group minnows Liechtenstein next month, while Iceland are away to Northern Ireland. Sweden, Denmark and Latvia are the other teams in Group F.
