LISBON, Portugal -- Jesualdo Ferreira has resigned as coach of Boavista and is poised to take over at champions Porto.

Boavista, who also play in the city of Oporto, announced that they were parting company with 60-year-old Ferreira on their official website on Tuesday.

The former Benfica coach signed a two-year contract with Boavista in May after spending three years with Sporting Braga.

Ferreira has been touted as the favorite to replace Co Adriaanse as coach at Porto once the Dutchman has finalised the details of his departure.

Adriaanse joined Porto in May 2005 after previous spells at Dutch sides AZ Alkmaar and Willem II Tilburg, becoming the fourth manager to sign for the club since the departure of Jose Mourinho in June 2004 to Chelsea.

Under his guidance, Porto captured the Portuguese league and cup double, but he decided to leave citing differences with the club's top officials.
