MADRID, Spain -- Real Madrid's Brazilian international defender Cicinho has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, the Primera Liga club said on Sunday.
The 26-year-old right back will need surgery and is expected to be out of action for a large part of the season after suffering the injury during the 1-0 league win at Betis on Saturday.
Cicinho turned awkwardly while challenging for the ball in Seville and was carried off in the 29th minute.
Real host Dynamo Kiev in Champions League Group E on Tuesday, having lost their opening match 2-0 away to Olympique Lyon.
