MADRID, Spain -- Atletico Madrid's Bulgaria winger Martin Petrov will be out of action for about six months after tearing his knee ligament on Saturday. The 27-year-old was stretchered off 10 minutes before halftime in the 2-1 victory over Recreativo Huelva after turning sharply competing for the ball with Santi Cazorla. Petrov is the second Atletico player this week to tear the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Leading scorer Maxi Rodriguez suffered the same injury playing for Argentina in a friendly against Spain on Wednesday. He will also be sidelined for about six months with both players having surgery at the same clinic in Madrid on Monday. ![]() Petrov (right) suffers his injury against Recreativo on Saturday. |
