MAINZ, Germany -- Miroslav Klose and Aaron Hunt scored two goals apiece to help Bundesliga leaders Werder Bremen to a 6-1 win at Mainz on Friday. Werder made their customary blazing start and were 3-0 up by the 21st minute thanks to the devastating Klose-Hunt combination. Naldo and Diego added second-half goals and Mimoun Azaouagh notched a consolation for the home side. Klose opened the floodgates in the 14th minute from Hunt's pass. Six minutes later he returned the compliment , unselfishly setting up Hunt for Bremen's second. A minute later the pair combined to devastating effect again, with Klose providing the finishing touch. Mainz pulled a goal back with fine free kick from Azaouagh in the 74th minute but that sparked another Bremen goalburst. Hunt nipped in ahead of Klose to make it 4-1 in the 75th minute, Naldo headed in the fifth with 10 minutes to go and fellow Brazilian Diego deflected in a sixth a minute from time. Victory took Werder three points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table, with 19 points from nine matches. Schalke 04, in second on 16 points, will pull back level if they win away to VfB Stuttgart on Sunday. The result puts further pressure on champions Bayern Munich. Bayern are in fourth place on 13 points and will need to win at home to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday to climb back to within three points of the leaders.
