MILAN, Italy -- Francesco Totti scored twice as Roma won 2-1 at AC Milan on Saturday to move within a point of joint leaders Inter Milan and Palermo.
While Roma celebrated their first league victory away to AC Milan since December 1987, Milan were left to reflect upon their fourth defeat in five Serie A matches.
Roma's win put them on 23 points, one behind Inter and Palermo, who both play on Sunday.
Milan, weighed down heavily by an eight-point handicap for match-fixing, remain fifth from bottom on seven points.
Totti's hooked volley gave Roma a seventh-minute lead at the San Siro before Milan struck the woodwork twice, Clarence Seedorf and Ricardo Oliveira both seeing efforts rattle the crossbar.
Cristian Brocchi equalized for Milan in the 56th minute with a curling, right-footed shot struck with the outside of his boot.
Totti restored Roma's advantage seven minutes from time, stooping to head Mancini's lobbed cross past Nelson Dida.
Giampaolo Pazzini scored two late goals as Fiorentina came from behind to defeat Atalanta 3-1.
Stung by a 15-point penalty for their involvement in the Italian match-fixing scandal, Fiorentina fell behind in the 25th minute when Giulio Migliaccio tapped in from six yards.
But the home side were back on level terms less than 60 seconds later, Adrian Mutu rifling home the loose ball after Alex Calderoni had saved Pazzini's close-range header.
Atalanta were furious when Pazzini squeezed in the home side's second goal from a tight angle in the final minute. The visitors felt Fiorentina should have kicked the ball out of play when their midfielder Andrea Soncin went down injured.
Pazzini rubbed salt into Atalanta's wounds in the fourth minute of stoppage time, rounding off a lightning counter-attack with a cool finish.
Fiorentina remain in the relegation zone despite their sixth win of the season.
Nedved scores two
Czech midfielder Pavel Nedved scored both goals as Juventus maintained their push for a swift return to Serie A with a 2-0 home victory against Pescara.
Juve's ninth win from 11 matches left them third in the second division on 20 points, three behind leaders Piacenza.
Nedved opened the scoring in the 18th minute, curling a right-footed shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.
The former European Footballer of the Year doubled his tally in the 57th minute.
Mauro Camoranesi crossed for Cristiano Zanetti whose cutback was rifled low into the net by the dynamic Czech from 16 yards.
Juventus would be five points clear in Serie B had they not been handicapped by an eight-point penalty for match-fixing.
