Injured Elkington misses Masters
Elkington's best finish at Augusta was joint third back in 1993 AUGUSTA, Georgia -- Australia's Steve Elkington pulled out of the U.S. Masters on Monday because of an ongoing groin injury. The 43-year-old, who withdrew from the Players Championship two weeks ago with the same problem, had been scheduled to make his first appearance at Augusta National since 2003. Winner of the U.S. PGA Championship in 1995, Elkington has played in the Masters 11 times with a best finish of joint third in 1993. The Masters, the first of the year's four majors, starts on Thursday. No Australian has ever won the Masters, the first of the year's four majors, but seven others remaining in the field will try to end that streak starting Thursday. They are Stuart Appleby, Robert Allenby, Adam Scott, Mark Hensby, Peter Lonard, Rod Pampling and Nick O'Hern.
