Wie has another tilt at PGA event

The prodigious Wie is not afraid to match her talent against the men.

FARMINGTON, Pennsylvania -- Teenage prodigy Michelle Wie will take on the men again in a PGA tour event in September, the organizers of the PGA 84 Lumber Classic announced.

The 16-year-old has competed against male U.S. tour professionals three times in her home state of Hawaii and at last year's John Deere Classic but failed to make the cut each time.

No woman has made the cut at a PGA Tour event since Babe Didrikson Zaharias in 1945.

Wie missed the cut by two strokes last July at the Deere event in Silvis, Illinois. She has already accepted a sponsor's exemption to play there again July 13-16.

If that bid fails, Wie will take another run at history at the $4.6 million event at Nemacolin Woodlands resort from September 14-17.

Wie shared third place at the first women's golf major championship of the year earlier this month at Rancho Mirage, California.

While not yet a full member of the LPGA Tour, Wie is set to compete later this year at the other three women's majors - the US Women's Open, Women's British Open and LPGA Championship - plus the Evian Masters, HSBC Match Play and Samsung World Championship.
