LONDON, England -- The European Tour have released its 2007 international schedule, which features a record minimum number of 50 counting events for the Order of Merit in addition to the Seve Trophy which returns to Ireland. Keith Waters, director of international policy, described it as a "momentous milestone" and compared it with the 21 tournaments staged in 1977, 27 in 1987, and 34 in 1997. Two tournaments are new to the schedule -- the MasterCard Masters next month in Melbourne and the Portugal Masters next October. Waters said in a statement: "We share with all sports the incentive to break records and we are naturally both delighted and encouraged to announce, that for the first time in our 36-year history, there will be more than 50 tournaments on the schedule." The BMW International Open and the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles exchange places in the calendar, the former taking place in Munich from June 21-24 with the latter moved to Auguest 30-Sepember 2. ![]() The Great Britain and Ireland team celebrate winning the Seve Trophy in 2005. |
