• From: Mike Yerian; Chicago, USA • Posted: Dec. 12, 2006 • Comment: I took my first trip to Europe earlier this year and i must admit Amsterdam was one of my favorite cities. The dutch are extremely friendly and well educated. One of my most memorable nights was watching Holland play in the world cup. The waitress at the bar painted our faces and gave us a free beer for cheering on the dutch.
• From: Donna Lee McGregor; Chatham, Canada • Posted: Dec. 6, 2006 • Comment: I would like to see any city through the eyes of artist, Viggo Mortensen. While I understand this is supposed to about my city, I would rather read about his view, his favourite city.

• From: Nihon • Posted: Apr. 26, 2006 • Comment: Hi, This question goes out to those who are in Amsterdam now. I'm thinking of visiting Amsterdam soon. Are there any travel agencies which organise tours to Europe in Amsterdam? Do they conduct English speaking tours? What's the budget like? Do give me any urls that you know of. Thanks a million!
• From: Eric; Amsterdam • Posted: Apr. 12, 2006 • Comment: As a foreigner having lived in Amsterdam for almost 2 years now, I would define it through a few words: a bit too "kitsch", diverse, quite segmented into "sectors" targeted at different types of persons that will not necessarily meet (tourists, business, Dutch, non Dutch ...). Traditions and eccentricity coexist, but do not necessarily thrive together...Overall it's fun and surprising to spend a few days here, but not necessarily to settle for long....
• From: Erik Hagen; San Jose, Cosa Rica • Posted: Apr. 3, 2006 • Comment: Have not been in Amsterdam for the last 12 years and I miss it every day. I have been in Paris, Madrid , New York, Miami but I won't be happy till I am back in AMSTERDAM!
• From: Angus Blake; UK • Posted: Mar. 28, 2006 • Comment: Amsterdam does have it's seedier elements, which are mainly made worse by British tourists, but it's still a great city. The canals are romantic and the art, architecture and culture are as good as it gets in northern Europe.
• From: Toon Visser; Holland, Michigan • Posted: Mar. 20, 2006 • Comment: At least Amsterdam accepts the fact that you will never stop prostitution or soft drugs so accept it and control it. The Dutch are years ahead of the rest of the world in tolerance and civility. For those that make comments like "God save Holland". Well, He has and the last time I checked, the Dutch are some of the happiest people in the world. God save the Middle East, they're the ones that need help.
• From: Mejawide; Arora, CO • Posted: Mar. 20, 2006 • Comment: We spent our honeymoon in France and Holland. I have to say the most romantic part of our trip was in Amsterdam. We took a canal cruise and we rode a carriage through the town. After that, we found a quaint little restaraunt and sat outside eating fondue and drinking champagne. Red Light is very interesting. The coffee shops were fun too! We have already made plans for a return trip with friends.
• From: Trevor; London • Posted: Mar. 17, 2006 • Comment: Hello, everybody! Last summer I visited Amsterdam. I really like it very much and the people are great. There is a company I travelled with and they are wonderful. They made my holiday a memorable experience. • From: Jeffrey Adkins; Orlando • Posted: Mar. 2, 2006 • Comment: I am an American that lived in Amsterdam from 2000 to just after Sept 11 2001. I live on the Wagenaarstraat just near the oost park. Thats just where Theo Van Gogh was brutally murdered for his free speaking. I am a professional musician and the Amsterdam scene sucks for live music. I feel sorry for the many talented musicians that live there. My favorite hang was the Last Water Hole in the district. I hear it has gone the wayside. The Amsterdam forest is a wonderful place to see. It is man made. Amsterdam has its own ghetto conviently located way outside of town in the south. The summer concerts in vondel park are fabulous. Don't believe the hype about serious drug problems it is almost non-existant. The red light district is way cool. The sleeper cells are not. I have been all over the country and Holland is a great country and the rest of the world shoul follow their lead in mercy killings, gay marriage, legal prostitution, and legal soft drugs.
• From: Aletta; Netherlands • Posted: Mar. 20, 2006 • Comment: Jeffrey, the red light district is not "cool" at all. Many prostitutes in Amsterdam are victims of human trafficking, or are forced by their boyfriend. More than 75% of the prostitutes would like to quit immediately. It's a form of slavery. I think you don't know my country as well as you think you do.
• From: Jeffrey Adkins; Orlando • Posted: Mar. 2, 2006 • Comment: I did not like the fact that Heman Brood took his own life.
• From: Jacco; The Hague • Posted: Mar. 2, 2006 • Comment: Hello everyone. If you want to pay our national capital a visit, there is a proper digital tour of Amsterdam on http://amsterdam.nl.tv/index_e.html
• From: Isa Mara Lando; Rio de Janeiro • Posted: Feb. 27, 2006 • Comment: Let's not forget the friendliness and cheerfulness of the Amsterdam people. They are much more outgoing and fun-loving that other north-Europeans. If you can visit only a few cities in Europe, I'd say don't miss Amsterdam and the super nice Dutch people.
• From: Blix • Posted: Feb. 25, 2006 • Comment: there is a splendid new tour of Amsterdam online, check www.audiocitytours.com
• From: Pat; U.S. • Posted: Feb. 21, 2006 • Comment: I liked the former boys' orphanage with the beautiful sign over the door: "Wy groien vast in tal und laft, ons tweede vaters klagen..." (doing this from memory)
• From: Phyllis Chambers • Posted: Feb. 20, 2006 • Comment: Anne Frank house is a not to miss place.Van Gogh museum. • From: Grisel Garcai, Manila • Posted: Feb. 17, 2006 • Comment: Thanks, Mr. Corbijn for giving me a glimpse of this beautiful city. Hopefully I could visit it one day and enjoy the place for all its unpretentious openess and romanticism.
• From: Sammi Fredenburg, Seattle, Washington • Posted: Feb. 15, 2006 • Comment: Anton took a series of 12 photos for a 2005 U2 calendar which are all black and white, and so very good i have it on the wall at work for this year as well. the numbers are quite obscure so the photography is front and center. There really is no one favorite for me, but the most stunning that i would get comments on was the month of June I believe with a solo photo of Adam. A very handsome and distinquished gentleman, in an awesome natural atmosphere, that this photo took my and my coworker's breath away.
• From: Dina, Austin, Texas, U.S. • Posted: Feb. 14, 2006 • Comment: Re. favorite Anton Corbijn photograph:It's not just one, defining image; I love the scope of his pictures of U2, the earliest ones in New Orleans and an Austin trailer park to today. However, if I must choose one, I'd say the picture of the 4 members of U2 with all their fathers at their instruments.

• From: Heiko Hampsink; Amsterdam, The Netherlands • Posted: Feb. 13, 2006 • Comment: When traveling around the world, you can tell people you come from the Netherlands and there will be a big chance that they have no idea where it is. However, tell them you are from Amsterdam and it's a completely different story. Amsterdam is recognized worldwide as being the most liberal city in the world. The city attracts tourists from around the globe, who come to check out the nightlife, the coffee shops, the red light district and the many historical sites. There is no other city that can offer the same things that Amsterdam has to offer. It is truly one of the most unique cities in the world. Every weekend you can check out a major international DJ perform. Events range from techno to R&B to punk, some of the largest events attract more than 80,000 visitors in one day with major festivals throughout the summer. In the center of Amsterdam you can find numerous trendy cafes and restaurants such as Supperclub, where you can dine while lounging on a bed, to the sounds of a DJ spinning loungey house music. For those who want to go to watch a play or musical, they can visit one of the many theaters in Amsterdam. The city is also home to Vincent van Gogh, Rembrandt, Anne Frank, Ajax, Van der Bourse (The Stock Exchange), DJ Tiesto (the worlds no. 1 DJ) and many more significant historical people.
