Do you have an inside tip on the Texan city? Send us your ideas and suggestions.
They say everything is bigger in Texas and they don't come much bigger than the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo -- the world's largest celebration of all things cowboy-related which takes place at Reliant Stadium from late February to mid-March. The rodeo features the best cowboys in the business competing for a purse worth $748,000 and draws around one million spectators. If you don't fancy the real thing you can try your luck on a mechanical bull.
Houston ain't just about barrels, beef and barbeques. It also hosts the world's oldest independent film festival, Worldfest, which takes place each April, premiering around 50 new films. Past winners have included Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Ridley Scott, Spike Lee and David Lynch so you're more than likely to spot a few stars of the future.
Sports fans are well catered for in Houston, especially since 2003 when the NFL returned to the city with the Texans taking over the Oilers' old turf. But for something different check out the city's new soccer team, Houston 1836, which makes it Major League Soccer debut in April, playing at the University of Houston's Robertson Stadium.
When it just gets too hot and you need to get out of the city, head for the beach. Galveston, an old-fashioned beach resort with a famous boardwalk is less than an hour from Downtown Houston.
