LONDON, England (CNN) -- Tight security restrictions implemented after police uncovered a terrorist plot to blow up trans-Atlantic airliners using liquid explosives have been eased for passengers traveling from Britain to the United States, airport operators say. British airport operator BAA said passengers can now take liquids aboard their flights if they were purchased after clearing airport security. "Following a recent relaxation of security restrictions by the American authorities, passengers traveling to America from BAA's airports, can now take liquids purchased after security on board flights," the statement said. The restrictions on liquids, gels and lotions were put in place after 24 men were arrested in an overnight raid in Britain on August 10 and were said to be in the "final stages" of a plot to blow up as many as 10 airplanes nearly simultaneously during trans-Atlantic flights to the United States. Since then some of the security restrictions have been loosened and starting on Monday, passengers will again be allowed to carry on limited quantities of liquids, but must meet the following guidelines: Armed police patrol Manchester Airport amid heightened security.
