Your e-mails: Making their mark
![]() U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Daniel Hendrex (CNN) -- While U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Daniel Hendrex was fighting the insurgency in Iraq near the Syrian border, help arrived from an unlikely ally: a 14-year-old Iraqi boy whose father was an insurgent. To repay the teen's aid in identifying and capturing insurgents, Hendrex made it his mission to get him safely out of Iraq. Nicknamed by soldiers as "Steve-O," the boy now lives in the United States, and Hendrex has written about him in the book "A Soldier's Promise." Despite the loss of his family -- his father was jailed and mother shot and possibly killed -- Steve-O "is doing incredible," Hendrex says. "He is a teenager like every other teenager." "American Morning" chose Hendrex as the latest person who was "Making Their Mark." CNN.com asked readers to send in their ideas about who is having an impact this past week. Here is a selection of those e-mails, some of which have been edited: I think the crazy guy in North Korea (ruler Kim Jong Il) is getting my vote. This guy is making me laugh, yet is angering me. I'd love to go a few rounds with this guy. The person making their mark was decidedly the person not making their mark at all. President Bush was once again remarkably absent during the first few days of the greatest crisis in the Middle East in 30 years, just as he was absent for the most crucial first hours of 9/11. President Bush is a man who will go down in history as one of the best presidents of our times. His ability to look past critics and focused on protecting our country is beyond reproach in my opinion. Although you will not see him on any national news or rarely any local news for that matter, my husband makes his mark every day as a law enforcement officer. The things he has accomplished in his 11-year career to make this country a better place to live makes me the most proud wife and American. He will never be in the spotlight, he likes it that way. He quietly works to help protect innocent Americans from the worst people in our society and does not expect anything but a hug from his wife and kids at the end of the day.
