Houses explode in Pennsylvania city

ALLENTOWN, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- Explosions leveled three houses Saturday afternoon in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and damaged two others.

No major injuries were reported, and the cause of the explosions wasn't known, reporter Randy Kraft from The Morning Call newspaper said. He said he was told that a contractor for the gas company was working at the homes, which were row houses, before the blasts occurred.

Video showed debris hanging from trees. Authorities evacuated surrounding houses, but some of those residents were being allowed to return late Saturday afternoon.(Watch firefighters hose down charred remains of houses and vehicles )

The blasts occurred between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on the south side of Allentown, which is north of Philadelphia.
