(CNN) -- At least five people were seriously injured Saturday in the town of Laval, Quebec, when part of an overpass above Highway 19 collapsed, a Montreal television station reported.

Some vehicles were stuck under chunks of the overpass, the station reported. The injured were taken to a hospital.

Chantal Mackels of Quebec provincial police told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. that three vehicles and a motorcycle fell from the overpass when it collapsed. The man on the motorcycle suffered head injuries and was among three who were critically injured, he said.

The rear end of a van, part of a car and what appeared to be an SUV were sticking out from the rubble, CBC reported. Eight to 10 fire engines reportedly were at the scene.

Police had received calls before the collapse to report that pieces of concrete were falling from the overpass, TVA Montreal reported.

Laval is about 13 kilometers (8 miles) northwest of Montreal.
