SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir (CNN) -- One person was killed and eight others wounded when militants in the Kashmiri city of Srinagar lobbed a grenade at a paramilitary police vehicle, police said.

The incident took place Monday in the Khanyar area of the city, located in the Indian-controlled part of the disputed region of Kashmir.

The person killed was described by police as a passer-by. Four of those wounded were civilians and the other four were security forces. Two of the wounded were in critical condition at a hospital.
