RELATEDYOUR E-MAIL ALERTSJERUSALEM (CNN) -- An Israeli airstrike on a vehicle in southern Gaza killed six Palestinians, including a senior militant and some of his family members, Palestinian security and medical sources said Saturday. The strike near Rafah killed Iyyad Abu al-Ennan, a senior commander with Salaheddin Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, according to the sources. The strike also killed al-Ennan's daughter. Fifteen others were wounded, the sources said. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz quoted witnesses and medics as saying that four people were in the vehicle that was attacked, and that al-Ennan's son and two bystanders were among those killed in the strike. Haaretz further described al-Ennan as a bomb-maker. "The vehicle was coming out of a training camp in which both training and weapons training were being conducted," an Israel Defense Forces spokesman told Haaretz. The Popular Resistance Committees is an umbrella group representing several militant factions, including Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas. The IDF said its air force fired a rocket at a vehicle carrying militants as they left a terrorist training camp in southern Gaza, but denied that the attack targeted al-Ennan. Gaza shelledEarlier in the day, Israeli troops fired more than 150 shells from air and sea into northern Gaza, where Palestinians have been launching rockets into Israel, according to the IDF. There were no reports of casualties. Friday's strikes marked the second day Israel has shelled northern Gaza. Israel Radio reported that Palestinians fired two rockets into southern Israel near Ashkelon on Friday morning. There were no injuries. The IDF Web site said Israeli forces also made 13 arrests in the West Bank, mostly members of Hamas, the ruling Palestinian party; and Tanzim, the militant wing of Fatah. The arrests took place in Ramallah, Hizma, Bethlehem and Nablus. Two IDF soldiers suffered minor injuries during the Nablus operation when Palestinians opened fire as the soldiers tried to make the arrest, according to the IDF Web site. The soldiers returned fire, and the man was eventually arrested.
