JERUSALEM (CNN) -- In a second day of attacks in Gaza, an Israeli airstrike Saturday targeted a training camp, killing at least six militants, Palestinian security and medical sources said.

At least five more people were injured, some critically, the sources said. The missiles hit a camp in southern Gaza used by the Abu Rish Brigades, formed by breakaway members from several militant groups, the Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, reported.

Israel Defense Forces confirmed that it targeted a Fatah-operated camp west of Khan Younis but would not confirm any casualties. The Fatah political organization ruled Palestinians for decades before being ousted by Hamas in elections earlier this year.

It was the third Israeli airstrike in Gaza in the past two days. Israel says the attacks are retaliatory. (Watch as the angry crowds carry the dead and wounded through the streets -- 1:07)

"Following the launching of projectile rockets at Israel, the IDF is continuing to fire artillery shells at projectile rocket-launching grounds in the northern Gaza strip," the IDF Web site states.

However, Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh sees it differently.

"This Israeli escalation aims to bring the Palestinian people on their knees and to blackmail the government in order to win over political concessions," Haniyeh told reporters in Gaza, according to Haaretz. "We will remain loyal to the rights of our people, and we will not give anything that may harm these rights."

Palestinian Authority spokesman Nabil Abu Rdeneh said Palestinians would appeal to the U.N. Security Council to pass a resolution condemning the recent Israeli attacks, Haaretz reported.

Earlier Saturday, Israeli aircraft fired a rocket at a vehicle in northern Gaza, on the outskirts of the Shajaiya refugee camp east of Gaza City, killing two Palestinians and critically injuring another, Palestinian security forces said.

Israel attacked the car because it was carrying three members of the militant Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, who had just fired a rocket into Israel, the IDF said.

Video from the scene shows onlookers gathered around the charred remains of the vehicle.

An airstrike Friday near Rafah killed Iyyad Abu al-Ennan, a senior commander with Salaheddin Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees. The attack also killed his child and four other people, and wounded 15. (Full story)

Israeli forces have been firing shells from land, air and sea at targets in Gaza, and another artillery battery will be deployed near Nir Yizhak on the Gaza border, joining heavy artillery already in place near Kibbutz Be-eri, Haaretz reported, citing Israeli radio reports.
