    BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Three U.S. troops were killed during fighting in Iraq's Anbar province, a Sunni stronghold west of Baghdad, the U.S. military reported Tuesday. A military statement said two Marines and one sailor assigned to Regimental Combat Team 5 died Monday "due to enemy action." The deaths brought to 2,647 the number of U.S. troops killed in the Iraq war. Seven American civilian contractors of the military also have died in the conflict. On Tuesday, violence in Iraq left at least 10 people dead, Iraqi authorities said. Gunmen killed three Shiites in a Baghdad drive-by shooting as they were walking to a religious ceremony, according to an official with the Baghdad emergency police. North of Baghdad in Baquba, gunmen killed seven people -- including three police officers -- in four separate drive-by shootings in eight hours, a Baquba police official said. Seven bullet-riddled bodies were found Tuesday in two areas of Baghdad: five in the northern Sunni neighborhood of Adhamiya and two in the southwestern Bayaa neighborhood, the Baghdad emergency police official said. On Monday, during a 12-hour span, Iraqi police found 40 bullet-torn bodies in the Iraqi capital, a police official said.
