LONDON, England (CNN) -- Let's pretend for a moment you are a plant-owner and you forget to water your plant. Quickly the plant wilts, it loses its color, and it dies. While most people wouldn't neglect their plants by failing to water them, often they do not take the same care with their own bodies.

Drinking water helps you manage your hunger, so drink water between meals.
Because our bodies are 60 percent water and we lose almost three liters a day through bodily functions, sweat and breathing, it's important that we top up throughout the day.
The amount of water each person should drink varies between two to three liters or quarts a day. This is around eight to 10 small glasses a day.
There are many reasons why we do not consume a lot of water. Some people find the taste bland, others think if they drink enough coffee or beer they will be covered, while some resent paying for bottled water.
