Scotland coach makes three changes

EDINBURGH, Scotland -- Scotland coach Frank Hadden has made three changes to his starting team for the Six Nations match against Wales at Murrayfield on Saturday.

Phil Godman is restored at outside half, Rob Dewey is selected at inside center and Scott Murray returns at lock.

Dan Parks, Andrew Henderson and Alastair Kellock have been dropped from the team that lost 42-20 to England at Twickenham last Saturday.

Parks' dismissal was not unexpected but many had thought his replacement would be Chris Paterson, who played the last 15 minutes of the match against England at outside half and contributed to Dewey's try.

"Dan is a very good kicker, but we're bringing in a player with world class attacking skills," said Hadden, speaking about Godman's running ability.

It is likely, however, that Paterson will have game time at outside half, when again he can press his claims for the number 10 jersey.

The selection of Dewey ahead of Henderson seemed guaranteed after the Edinburgh center made his mark coming off the bench against England.

Despite having been bullied by England, the Scotland pack has survived with only one change, Murray coming in for Kellock in the second row.

"Alistair didn't do enough on Saturday to keep Scott out of the equation," said Hadden. Kellock was unable to command a place on the bench, the second row cover provided by Nathan Hines, who has made a quicker-then-expected recovery from a foot injury.

The concern over the full fitness of Allister Hogg persuaded Hadden to keep the Edinburgh back rower on the bench, which means Scotland will start with the same breakaway trio that played against England.

The other two changes on the bench see the recall of Simon Webster and Nikki Walker. Both are recognised as wings, but Hadden said Webster would the cover for outside center.

Wales changes

Wales head coach Gareth Jenkins has made four changes for the Murrayfield encounter.

After the side's 19-9 defeat by Ireland last weekend, Jenkins has brought props Duncan Jones and Adam Jones into the front row, replacing Chris Horsman and Gethin Jenkins.

Jenkins moves to the bench but Horsman is dropped. Lock Robert Sidoli is favoured instead of Ian Gough, who was named as a replacement.

The other change is in the back line where wing Mark Jones replaces the injured Hal Luscombe. "We may have lost the first battle of the championship but that doesn't mean our campaign is over by any means," said Jenkins.

"Scotland are not a side to be under-estimated, they can be especially dangerous at home. But there were many positive points to take from our performance against Ireland and we will be looking to the Scotland game for a marked improvement and to get our Six Nations trophy challenge back on track."
