EDINBURGH, Scotland -- Ireland suffered a major setback on Friday when prop Marcus Horan was forced to pull out of Saturday's Six Nations clash with Scotland because of a calf strain. Coach Eddie O'Sullivan said: " He was just warming up and he felt a tightness at the top of the calf." Ulster's Simon Best has been promoted from the bench to loosehead with his provincial team-mate Bryan Young filling the vacancy among the substitutes. Leinster winger Denis Hickie showed no adverse reaction to the back spasm that threatened to end his hopes of playing. Geordan Murphy remains with the squad as cover with substitute Andrew Trimble set to win the number 11 jersey if Hickie is not given the all clear. Ireland are chasing a seventh successive win over Scotland and victory would complete their third Triple Crown in four years. ![]() Horan suffered the injury when he was warming up in training. |
