GROS ISLET, St Lucia -- England paceman Simon Jones has stepped up his recovery from a serious knee injury and hopes to be fit for the start of the English season. The England and Wales Cricket Board Web site said Jones, who has been out since May, is now bowling from a half run-up after returning from warm-weather training in South Africa. The 28-year-old reverse swing specialist was instrumental in England's 2-1 home Ashes victory over Australia in 2005 and the Welshman was badly missed in the recent return series, which England lost 5-0. The ECB said on Sunday that Jones should be fit for county side Glamorgan's first championship match in late April. England's first home Test of 2007 starts against West Indies at Lord's on Thursday, May 17. ![]() England badly missed the swing bowling of Jones during their 5-0 Ashes whitewash. |
