LONDON, England -- England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff had an operation on his left ankle on Friday. The England and Wales Cricket Board said: "Early signs are that the operation was routine and Andrew will begin his rehabilitation accordingly." Flintoff pulled out of the first two tests against the West Indies because of continuing pain during fitness tests. The injury is said to be separate from bone spur problems he suffered last year. That kept him out of action for three months but the ECB said they expect him to be playing again before the end of this summer. England have a one-day series against India in August and September and he could be ready for that. Flintoff said this week:" Having bounced back from ankle surgery before I know how much work is ahead of me but I'm desperate to get back playing for England as soon as possible." ![]() The injury forced Flintoff to sit out the first two tests against West Indies. |
