James plunges over for one of Wales' 11 tries.

Japan had the satisfaction of opening the scoring through a Shotaro Onishi penalty, and it took 10 minutes for Wales to break through.

Alun Wyn Jones scored a try and Stephen Jones converted for the 100th time in Tests but Japan responded with a superb breakaway try mid-way through the opening period to reclaim the lead.

Welsh No 8 Alix Popham was robbed by Hitoshi Ono as a five-metre scrum broke down and an exhilarating five-man counter attack concluded with wing Kosuke Endo touching down to complete a score from one corner of the ground to the other.

A Stephen Jones penalty got Wales back in front and Wales took command with two quick converted tries, centre James Hook scoring in the corner before hooker Rhys Thomas charged over.

Onishi kicked a penalty three minutes before the interval but a Kevin Morgan try enabled Wales to go in with a bonus point and 29-11 lead.

Michael Phillips and Shane Williams then added tries and Dafydd James went over before Japan notched a second try.

Another Popham, error enabled Hirotoki Onozawa to sprint 60 yards to touch down under the posts.

A try for substitute Gareth Cooper, two from flanker Martyn Williams and Shane Williams's second of the night boosted the try count as Japan tired. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
