German Stange will coach Belarus in their bid to reach the 2010 World Cup finals.

The 59-year-old German, who also coached the former East Germany, Oman and a clutch of Ukrainian, Cyprian and Australian sides, succeeds Yury Puntus.

Puntus resigned after Belarus mustered only seven points from their first seven qualifiers for Euro 2008 leaving them all but out of the finals in Switzerland and Austria.

Stange will manage Belarus in the remaining matches of the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign and will also coach them in the qualifying cycle for 2010 World Cup.

"Belarus' national side have great potential and are capable of qualifying for any of major football events," Stange said.

"Anyway I will do my best to achieve this goal." E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
