REYKJAVIK, Iceland -- Spain were four minutes away from defeat by Iceland in their Group F Euro 2008 qualifier in Reykjavik when Andres Iniesta slid home an equalizer and the 1-1 draw took the Spaniards onto 16 points, level with second-placed Northern Ireland and three behind Sweden.

Spain's rescuer Iniesta had also been their matchwinner in the first meeting of the sides this year.
Spain's task became difficult after 20 minutes when Xabi Alonso was sent off for a challenge on Arnar Vidarsson and shortly afterwards Joey Gudjonsson wasted a fine chance to put the home team in front, poking his shot wide with only Iker Casillas to beat.
Iceland went ahead five minutes before the break when Gudjonsson's curling cross from the right was headed home by Emil Hallfredsson.
Spain attacked with determination but created few great chances until the 86th minute when Iniesta, who scored the 80th minute winner against Iceland in the first meeting in March, ran on to a pass from Luis Garcia and beat Arason.
Poland snatched a 2-2 draw in Portugal when Jacek Krzynowek scored with a long-range 88th minute shot that struck a post and the shoulder of Ricardo.
The Poles took the lead through Mariusz Lewandowski just before the break but Maniche equalized after 50 minutes.
Cristiano Ronaldo volleyed Portugual in front after 73 minutes but Kryznowek's late strike kept his side two points clear the top of Group A. E-mail to a friend ![]()
