Francois Clerc celebrates his goal in leaders Lyon's 5-0 thrashing of Strasbourg on Sunday.

Alain Perrin's side took full advantage after nearest rivals Nancy were beaten for only the second time this season on Saturday, losing 2-1 at Le Mans.

Lyon, who have played one more game than Nancy, registered a 12th victory in 16 league outings this season as Kim Kallstrom netted twice.

The Sweden international opened the scoring in the 13th minute after a flowing team move, and Juninho made it 2-0 six minutes later with a superb free-kick which gave goalkeeper Stephane Cassard no chance.

France forward Karim Benzema added a third on 65 and Czech striker Milan Baros set up defender Francois Clerc's fourth 12 minutes from time before Kallstrom wrapped it up from the penalty spot (81).

Bordeaux reclaimed third place from Le Mans with a hard-fought 4-3 win at home to Toulouse.

Les Girondins, who crashed 5-0 at Caen last time out, led 3-0 at half-time with a double from Brazilian midfielder Wendel which came either side of a 33rd-minute strike by Alou Diarra.

The visitors' Swedish striker Johan Elmander replied with a hat-trick but Pierre Ducasse netted the winner for Bordeaux three minutes from time to leave Toulouse just a point above the relegation zone.

Also on Sunday, Valenciennes moved up to fifth place following a 3-0 win over Rennes, with Gregory Pujol following up Steve Savidan's 12th-minute opener with goals on 65 and 75. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
