LONDON, England -- American Hunter Mahan has accepted the chance to win the $2 million first prize at the World Match Play Championship at Wentworth in two weeks' time.

Mahan comes into the 16-man Match Play field after a host of players turned down the opportunity to appear.
The 25-year-old Californian comes into the 16-man field because Tiger Woods, Zach Johnson, Jim Furyk, Sergio Garcia, David Toms and Scott Verplank have all turned down the tournament.
Mahan finished 13th in the U.S. Open, sixth in the British Open at Carnoustie after a brilliant closing 65 and 18th at the U.S. PGA championship.
Swede Henrik Stenson and Dane Soren Hansen clinched their places in the event from the European Order of Merit this weekend.
The draw will be determined by the world rankings after next week's Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland, with the exception of defending champion Paul Casey, who will be the top seed.
As things stand Casey will play American Jerry Kelly in the first round and the highlight of the opening day will be Open champion Padraig Harrington against Ryder Cup team-mate Colin Montgomerie.
The other games will be as follows: Angel Cabrera v Niclas Fasth, Justin Rose v Mahan, Rory Sabbatini v Anders Hansen, Stenson v Woody Austin, Retief Goosen v Andres Romero and Ernie Els v Soren Hansen. E-mail to a friend ![]()
