VILAMOURA, Portugal -- For the second week running Argentine Daniel Vancsik goes into the final round of a European Tour event on top of the leaderboard and has the chance to make amends for his disastrous collapse in the Madrid Open.

Vancsik won the Madeira Islands Open in March.

Vancsik has a one shot advantage after three rounds of the Portugal Masters and now needs to erase the memory of his quintuple bogey nine at the fifth hole of his final round in Spain.

His third round 68 puts him 18 under par for the tournament, leading from England's Steve Webster and South African Charl Schwartzel at the Victoria Club.

The 30-year-old Vancsik claimed the Madeira Islands Open in March to announce his arrival as a serious contender after never previously finishing in the top 15 of a tournament.

He was two ahead after 36 holes but had a disappointing outward 36 in round three before grabbing birdies at 10, 12, 15 and 17.

Schwartzel, also chasing his second win of the year after capturing the Spanish Open, pitched in from 144 yards for an eagle three on the 17th as he produced a 66, while Webster shot 67.

One further back are Ryder Cup Swede Robert Karlsson and England's Ross Fisher, while British Masters champion Lee Westwood is in the group three behind following a 67. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
