(CNN) -- This month CNN Business Traveller is in Los Angeles. Home to the trans-Pacific super-hub of LAX -- Los Angeles International Airport.

Being behind the scenes at the Tom Bradley International Terminal is fascinating. The terminal processes 18 million passengers a year hand has been the spur for growth for the 264 flights a week to Asia.

With unrivalled access, CNN Business Traveller takes you on a journey through one of the busiest air terminals in the world.

We look at how United Airlines has come to deploy 25 per cent of its capacity on trans-Pacific routes and the impact of winning the latest new sector out of China -- the capital-linking Beijing to Washington route.

And there is also a glimpse at one of LAX's hidden gems -- the "Encounter" restaurant. As Richard Quest discovers, it's the perfect place from which to view the aerial ballet of a major airport in action.

With all this talk about crossing the Pacific, it's time to get to grips with one of Richard's trickiest traveler's problems -- the international dateline.

Never officially settled by treaty or agreement, the dateline is one of those phenomena that exists by necessity. CNN Business Traveller looks at how it came into being and how the dateline has moved over time thanks to politics and trade.

Since we're in Los Angeles, we couldn't not stop by Hollywood for a light-hearted glimpse at aviation in the movies. From "Airplane!" To "The Aviator" -- who gets it right and who gets it wrong in presenting flying on screen?

Variety Executive Editor Steven Gaydos and Hollywood Producer (and pilot) Tony Bill give us their celluloid picks.

Our viewer-driven "Know you know" segment this month looks at return ticketing. How to buy the cheapest ticket and why tickets brought from one "side" of the route are more expensive than the other.

Lastly it's sun, sea, surf and cycling as Richard's "Escape" is through Southern California. He takes the drive (and bicycle) along Big Sur from Santa Barbara to San Francisco through stunning scenery, winding roads, tall trees and beautiful vistas. The trip along Highway 1 is certainly one to remember.
