(CNN) -- An SUV driver traveling in the wrong lane of Interstate 65 was killed in a head-on collision with a Greyhound bus early Friday near Montgomery, Alabama, the city's mayor said.

A Greyhound bus and an SUV crashed head-on Friday killing the SUV driver, an official says.
The bus driver and 12 passengers suffered moderate to serious injuries and were transported to medical facilities, said Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright. None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, he said.
The motorist, who was alone in the late-model SUV, was pinned in wreckage after the crash, Bright said. "We had to get him out of the vehicle and transport him to the hospital, and he expired in the hospital."
Bright said the SUV was traveling north in the southbound lane of the interstate just before slamming into the bus.

"We think that something caused the driver in the SUV to get in the wrong lane," Bright said. "What caused that, we don't know at this point in time."
