(CNN) -- A bus carrying people to a festival crashed in Barbados, killing six people, including the driver, and injuring 37, police said.

At least eight were reported to be in critical condition. The injured were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the capital city of Bridgetown.

The bus was heading for the Crop Over Festival, when the vehicle crashed into a wall in St. Joseph, a parish on the eastern side of the island, at 11:05 a.m. ET, said Barbados police.

The annual five-week festival includes folk art and music attended by some 70,000 people. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
