PARIS, France (AP) -- France is willing to take in Colombian guerrillas as part of a deal to secure the release of hostages held by the country's leftist rebel group, the French prime minister said Wednesday.

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, left, greets French Prime Minister Francois Fillon this month in Argentina.
French Prime Minister Francois Fillon said the guerrillas, imprisoned in Colombia, could be freed in France as part of a swap deal with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC.
In exchange, FARC then would release the hostages it holds deep in Colombia's jungles, he said.
Former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt -- who has dual French-Colombian nationality -- is among the FARC's hostages in Colombia.
The French government has made Betancourt's release a priority.
The FARC previously has offered to release 46 high-profile hostages, including Betancourt and three U.S. defense contractors, in return for the release of hundreds of imprisoned rebels. E-mail to a friend ![]()
