BEIJING, China (CNN) -- Molten steel fell from a blast furnace onto workers at a northeast China steel plant Wednesday morning, killing 32 people and injuring two others, according to China's Xinhua news agency.

The steel workers were gathered for a meeting in a break room at 7:45 a.m. (7:45 p.m. ET Tuesday) when the steel ladle holding the tons of molten metal collapsed, showering the steel onto them, Xinhua reported.

The accident happened at the Qinghe Special Steel Corporation in Tieling City in Liaoning Province, the report said.
