(CNN) -- Swechha -- We for Change Foundation (SWFC) describes itself as a movement -- a consensus among people about the nature of society, its problems and possible ways to work towards a positive change.

As an action group it is involved in various activities to create a better, cleaner and healthier society.

SWFC was launched in the year 2000 as the We for Yamuna campaign, aimed at tackling the pollution and neglect of the river Yamuna, the waterway, considered the "lifeline" of Delhi.

We for Yamuna became a youth campaign in the leading colleges of Delhi, and within months of its inception was able to mobilize more than 500 volunteers to work on the project.

From this starting point, the organization grew to be one of the strongest voices on the condition of the Yamuna, and eventually becoming a fully-fledged NGO.

Swechha -- We for Change Foundation, now comprises a group of professionals, consultants and volunteers from a range of fields including social work, management, media and science. Its projects bring under one umbrella the issues of empowerment, environmental conservation and social consciousness. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
