(CNN) -- In an unprecedented move, the Chinese government has pledged over $14 billion to clean up Lake Tai, one of the world's most heavily polluted lakes. Years of unregulated dumping by nearby factories rendered the lake water unpotable for millions of residents who relied on it for drinking water.
The clean-up is still in its early stages, but it is the first concerted effort by the government to address industry's impact on the environment.
