LONDON, England (CNN) -- A Muslim activist arrested in London on suspicion of encouraging terrorism was released on conditional bail after appearing in court Friday. Abu Izzadeen, whose birth name is Trevor Brooks, was arrested Thursday. He is known for heckling British Home Secretary John Reid during a speech last year. According to police, Izzadeen was charged under the section of the Terrorism Act 2006 that relates to "the encouragement of terrorism." He appeared Friday in London's Westminster Magistrates' court and is scheduled to appear again March 23. His arrest resulted from a speech he gave in the West Midlands last year, police said, without giving details. Police said Izzadeen was arrested at his home Thursday morning as the result of an ongoing inquiry. CNN's Roger Clark contributed to this report. ![]() Abu Izzadeen heckled the UK Home Secretary last year. |
