British police aid Woolmer inquiry

LONDON, England (CNN) -- A team of detectives from New Scotland Yard will leave for Jamaica next week to help investigate the death of Pakistan's cricket coach, Bob Woolmer, officials in London said Saturday.

"This is normal practice for a review to take place a short time after the commencement of an investigation," a written statement from Scotland Yard says. "In the UK, we actively encourage that investigations of this nature are reviewed periodically, and throughout the investigation.

"The Jamaican Constabulary Force remains the primary investigating force."

The British team will include three detectives and one crime-scene officer.

Woolmer was found unconscious in his 12th-floor room at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston on March 18, and was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The pathologist's report said he had been strangled.

On Wednesday, Kingston Deputy Police Commissioner Mark Shields said he had "very specific evidence" that Woolmer was murdered.

Woolmer's death came hours after Pakistan's humiliating elimination from the World Cricket Cup competition on St. Patrick's Day by an unheralded Irish team.

Shields said earlier this week that no suspects have been identified, and there was no clear motive for the crime.

The officer predicted that toxicology and histology test results, which have not been completed, will help investigators further narrow down the time of death.
