TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) -- Israelis are getting their first glimpse of an electric car that developers say will revolutionize transportation in the coming years.

The Silicon Valley start-up Project Better Place hopes the fully electric prototype will be on Israel's streets by the end of 2010. They hope to sell the vehicle around the world after that.

On Sunday, the Israeli businessmen behind the venture gave the prototype its first public road test by driving in circles in a Tel Aviv parking lot.

The silver car looks like a regular sedan. But there's no exhaust pipe and there's an electric socket where the mouth of the gas tank should be.

The car is being built by Renault, with backing from the Israeli government and a Danish energy company.
