Diet and Fitness Expert Dr. Melina Jampolis Physician Nutrition Specialist

Greetings CNNhealth readers!

I was trained in internal medicine but I quickly realized that many of the diseases that I was treating with medications on a regular basis like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes should initially be treated, and possibly prevented, with better nutrition and weight loss. So I began the process of training myself in the field on diet and nutrition since there was no formal program at the time for doctors.

In 2004, I became board certified as a physician nutrition specialist, a new sub-specialty of medicine. Since then, I've spent most of my days helping people just like you struggling to lose weight, get fit, and stay healthy in the real world. But I can reach only so many people every day in my office in San Francisco so I am thrilled at the opportunity with CNNhealth to help people throughout the world get and stay healthy through better nutrition and exercise.

My goal in answering your questions each week is to give you the most accurate and practical answers to your diet and fitness questions.
