CAPE TOWN, South Africa -- Graeme Smith's 86 and a superb spell of two for 13 in 10 overs by Shaun Pollock helped South Africa to an emphatic 86-run defeat of West Indies in the second one-day international in Cape Town.

Pollock's economical bowling was a major factor in South Africa's victory.
Smith took over after the Proteas lost Herschelle Gibbs and Jacques Kallis for 18. He shared stands of 91 with AB de Villiers (45) and 72 with Jean-Paul Duminy (68) as South Africa moved to 255 for nine.
Jerome Taylor took four for 34 and rounded off his spell with a spectacular last over which yielded only one run while three wickets went down.
First change bowler Ravi Rampaul made less impact, seeing De Villiers hit his first three deliveries for four, six, four with 18 runs in all coming from the over.
Pollock started with two maidens to make the West Indians' task even more difficult then had Brenton Parchment caught at backward point as his first spell finished 7-3-10-1.
Promising fast bowler Morne Morkel took two wickets off successive balls and Pollock returned with two maidens. Dwayne Bravo was run out trying to get off strike Pollock bowled Denesh Ramdin to take his career tally to 390 wickets in 300 one-day internationals.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul, batting with a runner for most of his innings, made 54 before being ninth out.
South Africa now lead the series 2-0.
Injury-prone fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has not been offered a contract by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
"We are giving 15 players annual central contracts," Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Nasim Ashraf told reporters.
"Like in the past year the seniority carried 20 points while the performance, which also includes fitness and discipline, carried 80 points," Ashraf said. E-mail to a friend ![]()
