INDIAN WELLS, California -- Australian Open champion Maria Sharapova continued her outstanding start to 2008 with a straight sets victory over 25th seed Eleni Daniilidou of Greece in the WTA tournament at Indian Wells.

Kuznetsova was fully extended by the Slovakian Cibulkova.

The fourth seed moved into the fourth round with a 7-5 6-3 win that takes her record to 16-0 for the year including her grand slam triumph in Melbourne.

Earlier, second seed and world number three Svetlana Kuznetsova had to work hard to go through by overcoming Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova 6-1 4-6 6-3.

Kuznetsova's next opponent will be Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki, a 6-0 6-2 winner over Japan's Aiko Nakamura.

Defending champion and fifth seed Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia also progressed with a 6-4 6-2 win over China's Zheng Jie, but former world number one Amelie Mauresmo of France continued her dismal run as she went out 6-1 6-2 to Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko.

Mauresmo has not won three matches in a row since her unsuccessful defense of her Wimbledon crown last July, hampered by injury and poor form.

"Every time is always tough to handle, but then you just go back to work and do the best you can," she said.

"These moments are difficult, but then the career and the year continues." E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
