JEREZ, Spain -- Dani Pedrosa gained his fifth MotoGP success and moved to the top of the world championship standings when he won the Spanish title in Jerez.

It was the 28th victory for Pedrosa and his fifth on the MotoGP circuit.
The Spanish Honda rider came home ahead of Italian Valentino Rossi and Spanish teammate Jorge Lorenzo.
Pedrosa quickly sped clear and led from start to finish to notch up his 28th career win. He finished third in Qatar three weeks ago.
Pole sitter Lorenzo was second for the first three laps before being overtaken by Yamaha's Rossi. The Spanish rookie holds second place in the championship five points ahead of Rossi.
Rossi blundered at the start of the final lap when he thought that the race was over, before realizing his error.
The mistake did not hamper the five-time world champion, although he has now gone six races without a win, his longest drought since his first triumph in 2000.
France's Randy De Puniet crashed on lap four and American Colin Edwards was retired after the sixth.
World champion Casey Stoner of Australia, who won the season-opener in Qatar, finished 11th after going off the track twice. E-mail to a friend ![]()
